Padma Rajendran
Medium Sized Mirage
February 23 - March 29, 2024
Deanna Evans Projects is pleased to present Medium Sized Mirage, a solo exhibition of recent fiber work by Catskill-based artist Padma Rajendran. This is Rajendran’s first solo exhibition with the gallery and will be on view from February 23- March 29, 2024.
Medium Sized Mirage, is a culmination of new work by Rajendran that focuses on recalling episodes of vanishing time, stories, and events that have been forgotten since the start of the pandemic, which coincided with the birth of Rajendran’s daughter. The embrace of the soft, fragmented, and abstract elements in her pieces is an attempt to capture an understanding of the liminal space of shifting relationships to body and other beings, as well as the constantly shifting hierarchies of time.
This body of work was made in connection to drawing and the action of ritual within the home space, from the momentous event to the bountiful to the banal. In these soft works, Rajendran works with shapes and symbols that are familiar, but are concealed behind delicate roving fibers, dyed silk, ribbons, textured marks of dyed and found patterns, clunky plastic mesh, and acrylic felt. Medium Sized Mirage is a continued experimentation of clash and combination of material, patterning and structure. This is Rajendran’s first solo show in New York City since 2020.
