Lauren Whearty

Lauren Whearty investigates personal narratives through the shared cultural, and often domestic, lens of objects and scenes. These still life paintings set the stage for stories that are not fully told in a single image, and hint at more beyond the edge of the canvas. Lauren sees the practice of painting as an important form of active observation, which calls on us to consider the everyday in new and critical ways. She received my MFA in Art from The Ohio State University with a Graduate Teaching Associate Award, an Arts and Humanities Research Grant, and was nominated for the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant. Wheatry then received her BFA in Painting from Tyler School of Art, Temple University. She was the recipient of the Ellen Battell Stoeckel fellowship to attend Yale’s Summer School of Art residency in Norfolk, Ct. She attended Vermont Studio Center with a fellowship, and will be attending the Golden Foundation Residency in 2021.
