Kevin Umaña
Kevin Umaña (b. 1989 Los Angeles, CA) received a B.F.A. from San Francisco State University with dual degrees in Studio Art and Surface Design. He has exhibited internationally and in 2018 completed a residency through the Sím Seljavegur Program in Reykjavik, Iceland. He’s collaborated with Condé Nast, Wired Magazine, London College of Music and Slowdown Studio and in 2017 created a permanent installation at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. Currently, Umaña lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
Through the use of a flat regulated patterns, Umaña uses the paintings to draw attention to pictorial structures, organization and color balance. The idea of achieving the fundamental concept of a form, the concept of a structure and then addressing the painting so that the solid form has a clean context.
